When the 18th Century drew to a close, we saw several changes, and one of these changes was to the blacksmithing business. Before the Industrial Revolution, the blacksmith would meet many of the community’s needs, such as farriering, jewelry making, and tool making. With the shift from individual smithies to factories, we see today how many people are able to help shape and join in this fascinating history through the creation of jobs. While the smithing industry might look different today, we see the benefits of both labor being available to many and the artesanal skills retained by the few.
