When you think of sculptures, what do you think of? Mount Rushmore? The Statue of Liberty? These two amazing works of art are examples of the two categories of sculptures: one is a relief, and the other is freestanding.
As we explore the different processes of sculpting, we learn about the variety of tools, materials, and methods that artists use to create their masterpieces. Some methods are particularly complex and require a great deal of training to complete. In contrast, other methods are more suited to a novice as they begin their artistic journey. The material that speaks to the artist can range from found objects to bronze and can bring another piece of beauty into the world.
