Did you know that you don’t have to go all the way to Mount Rushmore — or even to any number of the memorials in Washington, D.C. (to name just a few!) — to see a historical monument?

Very often, we are surrounded by monuments in our hometowns and don’t realize that we drive past them everyday. Whether it be an old tree, a faded marker, or a statue in front of the town hall, these monuments are within our reach and can help us learn about the history of our hometowns. These monuments can be the start of a fun series of field trips, lessons or conversations with your students!
